Inside Knowledge: Why are they called Duck Tours? The amphibious vehicle used in the Tahoe Duck Boat Tours is a World War II creation known as DUKW. Commonly known as a "duck," this vehicle can travel on water and land. Nearly 21,000 DUKWs were built by General Motor Company during WWII and they have the capacity to carry more than two tons over water and land.
Do's and Don'ts:
- Do Plan Ahead: Daily Tahoe Duck Boat Tours run through June, July and August, while limited tours are available during the Spring and Fall. After Labor Day weekend, tours will only run Thursday through Sunday at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. The last day to take one of the Tahoe Duck Tours is Sunday, September 25.
- Do Stop By the Shops at Heavenly Village: Tahoe Duck Tours meets at the Heavenly Village Suite 31. The Shops at the Heavenly Village are a collection of fashion retail and sporting goods stores, along with casual dinning restaurants.
